“SKILL DEVELOPMENT FOR WOMEN AND GIRLS”

》When done right, skills development can reduce un-employment and underemployment, increase productivity, and improve standards of living both in urban and rural communities. Helping women and youth to develop and update their skills makes economic sense.

》The scheme is implemented with the objectives to enable a large number of women and girls to take up industry-relevant skill training that will help them in securing a better livelihood.

》Skill development is a vital tool to empower youth, to safeguard their future and for the overall development of an individual or a nation. It is an important aspect that enhances employability in today’s globalisation. Skills are as essential as one’s academic status. Education and skills should now go hand in hand.

A SUCCESS STORY - Kyokutamba Sandra

Home 05

Like any other young lady looking for opportunities, when I heard about the skill empowerment training Programs Agape Women's Union was doing through different income generating activities like making bar soaps, liquid soaps, shampoos, shower gels, sanitizers, lotions, creams etc. I joined in their training sessions, and I remember it was a three-day training course, and these were the days of the COVID-19 Pandemic, so soap generally was an important item to consider, since it was accorded by the Ministry of Health as one of the ways we can combat and fight against the spread of the pandemic.

I looked at this skill training as an opportunity to start my personal business, because it is from these skills training that I learned how to make liquid soap and bar soap, which are my current source of income. I currently run “SAN HYSSOP company”, which has a production unit of 300 bars of soap per week and 200ltrs of liquid soap per week.

The supply demand is more than the production of the soap being an essential necessity in every home; because we have a few MOLDERS and LIMITED SPACE to dry the soap, though we would like to increase on our production to meet the demands. Looking at a target of 1000 bars of soap per week and this can only be achieved if we could get ample space for production and more molders, so that, we can meet the demand.

Thank you Agape Women's Union, the training was fruitful and also timely.
